Third-party product supplier

Helloo, i’m having an issue with the product i’m working on. As far as i understand if the product was not manufactured by our company, it will falls under A1 data. How about the packaging? the packaging was done by the third party which also not our company. Will it still be in OCLCA A1-A3 section for A3 ancillary and packaging? or will it be under A1 raw material? And what is the reason of it?

Hi Syaza,

Yes, the packaging for the final product should generally be categorized under A3 (Manufacturing). Even though the product and packaging are handled by a third party, the packaging is considered an input to the manufacturing/finishing process of the product.

The breakdown usually looks like this:

  • A1 (Raw Material Supply) → This covers the extraction and production of the raw materials themselves. (Note: If you use EPDs for these materials, they may include their own upstream packaging/ancillaries).

  • A3 (Manufacturing) → This covers the processing of those materials into the final product. Since packaging is applied to the product during this phase, the packaging materials are an input to A3."

I hope this helps to clarify,
Steven
