Raw material modeling for quarry production

Hello everyone,

Although this is not my first LCA, I have a problem and need some advice. I am preparing an LCA for quarry products: sand, gravel.
How do I indicate the raw materials used in module A1? As I understand it, only the extraction process can be used here. If so, which one?

Hi Audrius,

For quarry products, Module A1 represents the resource while it is still in the ground. In the data input pages, you should look for “Direct extraction” or “Elementary flows” rather than processed materials.

It could look like this (see screenshot below):

  • Resource (A1): Use "Direct extraction of: [Material], in ground.
  • Land Use (A1): Include “Transformation to mineral extraction site”
  • Ancillary (A1): Include any explosives (blasting) or chemicals used during the actual extraction.
