What would you do if you don’t find any suitable datapoints when doing LCA for EPD?
I have a product which is a one kind of machine that includes numerous ready components. Components do not have EPD’s and there is no datapoints in Ecoinvent.

You can also use some kind of the proxy/simillar data from LCIA databases.
Hi, There is for example some kind of sight glasses and fan motors. I have tried to search for similair data, but haven’t found anything.
Should I then just ask the customer to ask those environmental details for the manufacutrer of these materials? Is it so that they have to do EPD’s first so that I can create an EPD where those materials are used?
Hello Elisa and welcome to the community.
It is a common issue with more complex products where the components do not have EPD’s. It is not necessary that they do the EPD’s for each component first, you can model the data within the same LCA model in One Click LCA as long as you can get the data from the component manufacturers.
Creating construction groups within One Click LCA can be one way to model the components and then you will be able to re-use these components in multiple different products if that is needed.

Thank you! You mean that I should have all the same data from manufacturers of the raw material as I have normally when doing LCA. So I need to do the same work to all those components I don’t have data: collect raw material use, transportation, wastes, energy use etc…?
You do not need to model the manufacturing waste in supplier’s factory. A3 module is limited to the manufacturing company and any waste generated on your site. If all components are obtained from suppliers, then the wastage from assembling these components will be the only items to model. Same applies to A2 transport, A3 energy use, etc.
Essentially if you are going to use a proxy datapoint all you need to know is the mass and distance transported to your factory/assembly site.
