Demolishing and EoL

I have a product that ends up in paint on a building. It represents 0.1% of the paint film. My declared unit is 1000Kg.

What are the rules here? Do I have to demolish enough of the building to get 1000kg of my product (1,000,000 KG of the building - say concrete). And then do I have to allocate 0.1% of the energy for demolishing that 1000000kg to my product? this would mean my product would take the hit for demolishing 1000KG of concrete. It appears to be a large number? Am I missing something? Thanks

You’re right that your product’s end-of-life follows the paint and the building material. However, you don’t need to allocate demolition of a proportional amount of the building to your 0.1% contribution.

Instead, focus on the typical end-of-life of the paint itself (landfill, incineration, etc.) and potentially the substrate (concrete recycling/landfill, wood incineration/landfill). Your product’s EOL impact is tied to the paint’s fate, not a proportional demolition of the entire building.

It’s also possible your product’s end-of-life impact is negligible and doesn’t require detailed modeling.
