I am unable to add an EPD made in accordance with EN 15804:2012+A2 in a project modelled using LCA for LEED, International (CML) tool. Can someone help me with understanding where this reform is coming from ? Does USGBC mandate against using A2 EPDs or is it the LCA for LEED, International (CML) tool in oneclick LCA limiting the use of A2 EPDs in the projects? My project is based in India fyi. Thanks in advance.
Hi Chandu,
Please note that the current version of LEED v4.1 does not permit the use of +A2 EPDs. This is a requirement set forth by the USGBC as a prerequisite for LEED certification, and it is not specific to One Click LCA.
The USGBC mandates the reporting of particular environmental impact indicators, which are aligned with the TRACI methodology for North America and the CML methodology for the rest of the world. While the CML (EN15804+A1) data standard for EPDs was superseded by the EN15804+A2 standard in July 2022, LEED has not yet incorporated this updated standard.
The specific environmental impact indicators are detailed within the Material credits section of the LEED v4.1 guide, which can be accessed at: LEED v4.1 | U.S. Green Building Council
Furthermore, the new guidance for LEED v5 does not reference EN15804+A2 either. It is anticipated that supplementary guidance will be issued in the future to provide a pathway for demonstrating compliance using +A2 data. However, for the current LEED v4.1 rating system, the utilization of +A2 EPDs will not be permissible.
