Hi
When inputting the area of a material such as gypsum plaster where the material thickness is included in the description e.g. 12.5mm, should the thickness be input as “1” and not “12.5mm” as it is already defined?
Hi Bunmi!
This depends a bit on the resource however for the majority of products in the database, we allow our users to input these with any thickness. A manufacturer might sell their product with fixed dimensions (e.g. only in 12.5mm thickness) and in such cases, you might want only to pick this dimension, however, other dimensions can be considered if the product is also produced with different sizes.
In short → If a product is scalable (allows different dimensions) you should input it according to your desired dimensions. If a product is only reportable in ‘units’ then you should enter it with a quantity of 1.
Another reason for the description to e.g. mention ‘12.5mm’ could be that the manufacturer just decided to record the emissions of their product with these dimensions, allowing users to adjust the quantities according to their needs as the emissions will be calculated for any chosen dimensions.
For gypsum plaster, this is no issue as the quantities scale well however if you have e.g. a metal facing board, the quantities would not scale accordingly and thus it would be better to stick with the dimensions declared by the manufacturer.
Let me know if you have any further questions!
