Cost based emissions values calcs

Can we use OneClickLCA to calculate carbon emissions based on dollar value? e.g., If i know how much dollars are spent on materials, installation and waste disposal, can software provides emissions output?

Hi Haroon,

thank you for your post!

Generally speaking, all of our tools that calculate LCA emissions follow this logic:
Quantity of material * emission factor = emissions

The emission factor represents the emissions (in the unit of the impact category) per unit of material’s quantity for a specific life-cycle stage (e.g. A1-A3). For the GWP impact category, one example for an A1-A3 emission factor would be 283 kg CO2e/m3 of ready-mix concrete.

Since emission factors consider the quantity of a product (most commonly area, mass, volume or unit) rather than financial cost (e.g. price paid in total), it is not possible to compute emissions directly from that information.

However, if you have e.g. a bill of quantities available, these often feature the bought quantities as well. Otherwise, if you know e.g. the total price, figuring out the price/unit can lead you to the number of purchased units.

I hope this is helpful to you. Please let me know if you have more questions.
