Hi,
I’m working on an embodied carbon assessment for a fitout project that does not follow any rating systems. What building elements are typically included in the scope of LCA for interior fitout? Can certain elements be excluded for ease of the assessment e.g. building services, lighting?
Hi Vinh and welcome to the One Click LCA Community!
Interior projects often do not follow rating systems and are rather dependent on the scope of your project. What typically is included could be the following:
- Internal walls and non-bearing structures
- Windows and doors
- Finishes and coverings
- Building systems and installations
Especially the latter can have a tremendous impact on the emissions of a fit-out project especially as the period of the assessment is usually shorter than 50 or 60 years. Modeling MEP can be a bit more of a challenge when compared to the other elements.
There are easy-to-use generic options e.g. for lighting which can be modeled per sqm like:
- Commercial lighting and power system for medium size building, standard performance per m2
That is just one example, there are many such options and the easiest way to find them is to set the ‘unit filter’ to square meters and search for the options.
Hope this helps and let us know if you have any further questions!
