Can you model portal frames in the carbon designer tool? And is it possible to add mezzanines to structures at that concept stage?
Thanks!
Hi Ryan,
welcome to the Community and thank you for your post!
In general, the LCA results of the Carbon Designer 3D depend on the quantities of the construction materials and the material resources selected (emissions per functional unit).
For the portal frame typically use wider spans. I would advise taking the closest suitable frame type and adjusting the material requirement in the Carbon Designer 3D (When calculating the areas).
To account for mezzanines, I would recommend recording these as part of the number of above ground heated floors and adjust the average floor height accordingly. Some of the materials for floors may need to be removed, to account for the open space created.
In this way, you can account for the different materials and the needed quantities, and have this thus reflected in the results.
I hope this is helpful for your case. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
