Modelling a Structure

Hello,

I’d like to create an EPD for a structure which consists for multiple elements but have mostly been dealing with single products which contain different materials, rather than structures, so I had a couple of questions:

  1. A number of the elements are made from the same material (which we produce) using the same extrusion process and we have an EPD for this, and the material scales linearly - can I group all the elements in this structure into one entry in section A1?
  2. For other elements which we don’t produce, if there aren’t any existing EPD’s for the specific item do I need to create EPD’s for them myself or can I just break the part down and add the elements separately? For example say one item is a steel plate fastener with a screw system - it’s all made of steel but it is obviously an item made from multtiple parts. Can I just try to find all the parts separately in the database and add them in?
  3. If we had project EPD’s for some of those parts (i.e. internally verified), can we use those in a third party verified EPD, or would they have to be third party veriifed?

Thanks very much.

Hi Camilla

Here some answers:

  1. Yes you can group them all in one entry.
  2. Yes, you can model the parts separately. You can model the steel plate on the one hand and the screws on the other hand. Maybe you will have the same steel datapoint but different processing datapoints e.g. hot-rolling vs metal working
  3. Yes, you can use it.

Have a nice day!
