This is an exciting development for our building circularity tool. The new features will assess the connections between materials for a quantitative measure of reversibility, a key principle of Design for Disassembly.
Construction, demolition, and renovation can make substantial contributions to a circular economy under EU Taxonomy by reducing the usage of virgin materials and preparing materials for reuse and recycling. However, Design for Disassembly principles should be embedded into projects for claims of economic activities significantly contributing to a circular economy to be robust.
The methodology has been developed in cooperation with Aalto University and already evaluated on real projects. We are now looking for more data to further validate the methodology with different projects.
