I am modelling the manufacture of a ceramic product where some of the raw materials (e.g. coke) is fully combusted in A3. I believe this is a raw material (as opposed to ancillary material) as it is physically incorporated within the product. Regarding energy balancing, would I be correct to manually balance this in A3? It seems illogical that this combustible material should be balanced in End of Life as per the standard balancing guidance.
Just wanting to follow-up here. Basically, should I follow the Biogenic Carbon and Energy Balancing guidance (30th June), or use the Balance in A3 feature in the import form? Thanks.
I agree that if the energy from the material is released during its combustion in the manufacturing process, it should be balanced in A3.
While we often approach balancing based on when the material leaves the system, this works on the assumption that the material retains its inherent properties throughout its life cycle. If it doesn’t, the approach should be to balance when the energy/biogenic carbon is actually released.
