The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has unveiled a draft of LEED v5, the latest version of the globally recognized green building rating system.

LEED v5 marks a significant shift towards a low-carbon future, restructuring around three goals: Climate Action (50% of points), Quality of Life (25%), and Ecological Conservation and Restoration (25%).

Key pillars include a focus on decarbonization, spotlighting embodied carbon reduction, and a commitment to health, resilience, and equity.

The draft version, revealed at the Greenbuild 2023 conference, is specific to Operations and Maintenance (O+M), with the Building Design and Construction (BD+C) version expected in 2024 after refinement based on feedback from beta testing.
